Please take the time to look around to see who we are and how we serve our community. Hopefully you will discover that you would like to be a part of what we do and will want to join us!

A message from the President Elect…

Welcome to our club!  We would be thrilled to have you as a member of Soroptimist International of Cameron Park/El Dorado Hills (SICP/EDH)! We are a global women’s organization whose members work to improve the lives and women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Soroptimist programs focus on providing women and girls with access to education, which is one of the most effective ways to end social problems disproportionately affecting women and girls.

Soroptimist International (SI) has consultative status with the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council, which oversees U.N. activities and policies promoting human rights. It is in this forum that Soroptimist representatives can advocate for the Soroptimist mission of improving the lives of women and girls.

As part of our mission to assist women and girls’ economic empowerment through education, we award the “Live Your Dream Award,” given to assist women annually who provide the primary source of financial support for their families. Our newest global program is Dream it, Be It: Career Support for Girls.” Dream it Be It focuses on girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. We are still in the planning stages of how our club will embrace this program. The idea is “…to provide girls with access to professional role models, career education and the resources to live their dreams."

All of our awards, and the programs we support, are financed through fundraisers that club members arrange. Our major fundraiser is A Chocolate Affair, a chocolate, food, and wine tasting event to benefit local women, children, and families. (We may have met you there!)  We have been doing this fundraiser for over 10 years, and it takes a village – or at least all of our members and the members of SI Placerville -- to pull it off! We also hold a film fundraiser called LunaFest.

Programs that we support include the El Dorado County Food Bank, Hands4Hope, The Center for Violence-Free Relationships, Hope House, and the Housing Emergency Lodging Program (H.E.L.P.), to name a few. Throughout the year we give in-kind support to many organizations for their efforts as well.

Whew! I know that sounds like a lot, but we do it together. “Many hands make light work.”  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. It’s my pleasure!  And again, welcome to our club!!

What began over 10 years ago as a distribution of hard-earned funds to worthy community providers, has blossomed into an annual program by Soroptimist International of Cameron Park/El Dorado Hills. Applications are now available for local non-profit and charitable organizations to submit for the 2016-17 financial grants. Our Soroptimist Club has provided over $104,000 in the past years to benefit Hope House, American Association of University Women, Hands4Hope, a mobile unit for the Food Bank of El Dorado County, and a variety of grants to over 40 other organizations.
